Li-Lac Chocolates

Established in 1923 the first store was located in Greenwich Village (120 Christopher Street).

The store has moved to a larger location at 40 Eighth Avenue. The fourth and current owner is still using the original chocolate recipes.

When I visited the store, the staff was extremely helpful and willing to describe the various kinds of chocolate and offer suggestions.

I purchased a box of assorted samples. All of the pieces with caramel or nuts were especially good.

The store reminds me of the chocolate I grew up with on the West Coast – See’s Candies. Both companies have long histories and they both provide quality chocolate for an inexpensive price.

Overall, it is good value for the price. I like to think of it as comfort chocolate. It is the kind of good old-fashioned chocolate that you would buy for your mom on Mother’s Day.
